This month, we’re shining a light on one of our favorite pros on the water—Captain Jonathan Moss of The Captain’s LogTV and Radio shows. Based in Central Florida, Capt. Moss is a full-time fishing guide with Go Castaway Fishing Charters, a passionate family man, and a lifelong lover of all things outdoors.

“God is good and I am truly blessed,” he says. And if you’ve seen his 2025 Cayo 180 skiff gliding through the shallow waters of the Indian River Lagoon, you know he’s not taking any of it for granted.

Fishing Life, Lit Right

Capt. Moss isn’t just about chasing fish—he’s about precision, preparation, and creating unforgettable experiences for his clients. That’s where his Shadow-Caster setup makes a difference.

“I have a Shadow-Caster light EVERYWHERE on my skiff,” he shares. “Each hatch has a light. As a guide, my day starts early and being able to see in each hatch helps me stay organized and ready without digging around in the dark.”

He’s also outfitted his rig with a transom-mounted underwater light—great for aesthetics, sure, but even better for lighting up poorly lit boat ramps. “It truly brightens up a dark situation. I just make sure not to turn it on until I’m in front of the ramp so I don’t blind anyone in line to launch.”

And when it’s time to welcome clients aboard? The under-gunnel lighting helps them safely step on deck. From the poling platform to the deck, every inch of his setup is thoughtfully lit for function and form.

“My Shadow-Caster lights are pretty, yes,” Moss says, “but honestly, they serve me as an incredible tool. A tool I use EVERY DAY.”

More Than a Job

For Capt. Moss, fishing isn’t just a profession—it’s a family tradition and a way of life.

“Each trip is another reminder of how fortunate I am to live an outdoor lifestyle with my family. It all started fishing with my mom and dad, and now I get to recreate those sweet memories with my own kids.”
